Joiners and builders in Callander and the Trossachs

We cover the villages west and north-west of Stirling along the A84 and A81: Blair Drummond, Doune, Deanston, Thornhill and Kippen, up to Callander and Aberfoyle on the edge of the Trossachs. It is rural work and it suits us. We are used to older stone buildings, awkward access and jobs where the joiner needs to solve problems on site rather than wait for someone else.

Homes in the Trossachs and what they need

  • Stone cottages and Victorian villas. Callander’s Main Street and the older parts of Doune and Aberfoyle are largely stone-built. Sash and case window work, roof and dormer joinery, period doors and staircases, and kitchens designed around thick walls and uneven floors.
  • Holiday lets and B&Bs. The Trossachs is a busy visitor area, and lets are a common source of work: kitchens, bathrooms, built-in storage and repairs, usually to a fixed date between bookings.
  • Farmhouses, steadings and rural properties. Extensions, conversions of outbuildings, loft conversions, garden rooms and general repairs.

Planning inside the National Park

Callander and Aberfoyle sit inside Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, so planning applications there go to the National Park Authority rather than the council, and the Park has its own design guidance on materials and extensions. Building warrants still come from Stirling Council building standards. Doune, Deanston, Thornhill, Blair Drummond and Kippen are outside the Park and are handled by Stirling Council for both planning and warrants. We will tell you which applies before any work starts.
